Does Malta ask for a PCC at all?
Here is the straight answer. Identità's checklist for a new single permit application lists the form, passport copy, work contract, job description, job advert, Jobsplus declaration, health screening, accommodation papers and health insurance. A police conduct certificate is not on that list.
The same checklist ends with "any other applicable document requested by Identità". So the authority can ask for more in a particular case, and many Maltese recruiters and employers ask for a police certificate as part of their own hiring checks.
Our advice: get your PCC apostilled for Malta only when someone actually asks for it, in writing if possible. If nobody has asked, keep your money. If a request does come, we can process it from the PCC you already hold.

This is the most common source of the request. Ask them two things: does the PCC need an apostille, and does it need to be issued after a certain date? Their answers decide the whole job.

If Identità asks for extra documents on your file, the request usually reaches you through your employer. Read it carefully for the words "apostille", "legalised" or "certified", and send us a screenshot.
Other Malta residence routes
Applicants for other residence permits, such as the nomad residence permit, should follow that route's own checklist. The same rule applies: apostille when asked.
When it is asked for: the apostille route
India and Malta are both members of the Hague Apostille Convention. An Indian PCC for Malta gets the MEA apostille. No Maltese embassy stamp is involved.

English is one of Malta's official languages, and an Indian PCC is in English. Translation is rarely part of a Malta request. If your employer does ask for one, we translate into any language.

Questions about PCC apostille for Malta
My agent says a PCC apostille is compulsory for every Malta work permit. Is that true?
Identità's published single permit checklist does not list one. Your agent or employer may still require it for their own process, or Identità may ask for it on your file. Ask the agent to show where the requirement comes from, then decide.
I got a PCC last year for another country. Can I reuse it for Malta?
Only if whoever asked for it accepts its date and it does not name another country. Many employers want a recent certificate. Confirm with them before we apostille it.
Will Malta accept a PCC from my local police station?
That depends on the person asking. If they accept it, it needs Notary + SDM or Home Department authentication before the MEA apostille. If they want a passport office PCC, you will need to get that one instead.
Do my other documents need an apostille for Malta?

I am already working in Malta. Can my family send my PCC to you from India?
Yes. A family member can courier or drop off the original PCC with a copy of your passport. We return it to them, or to any address in India they give us.
