Who asks for a legalised degree in China
Three kinds of people send us degrees for China. English and subject teachers hired by Chinese schools and training centres need the degree for their work permit. Engineers and technicians, whether hired by a Chinese firm or posted there by an Indian company, are asked for it for the same reason. Graduates joining a master's or PhD programme need it for admission and later for the student residence permit.
In each case the Chinese employer or university is the one that files your papers with the local authorities. They will reject a degree that only carries an Indian university's seal, because they have no way to check it. The stamps we add give them that check.
How a degree is legalised for China
From our processing experience, Indian degrees used in China go through embassy legalisation. The first stage confirms the degree inside India, the MEA then attests it, and the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi or the consulate covering your region adds the final stamp.
Option A
Notary + SDM first
Works for degrees from any state. Most work permit files we handle for China use this route.
Option B
State HRD first
Verification by the education department of the state where your university sits. Used when the Chinese side names state verification.
If your employer or university has given you a written document list, send it to us before you choose. We match the route to what that list asks for.
Which education papers to legalise
The degree certificate is the core document, but Chinese offices often ask for more. Check your list for these:
- Final degree certificate, needed for almost every work permit.
- Consolidated marksheet or transcript, often asked by universities for postgraduate admission.
- Provisional certificate, if the final degree has not been issued yet. Ask your employer whether they will accept it.
- Class 12 marksheet, mainly for students starting an undergraduate course in China.
Each paper goes through the chain on its own and is priced on its own. The name on every document should match your passport. If your name is spelt differently on the degree, tell us at the start, because a mismatch is a common reason for a Chinese office to send a file back.
PCC and Chinese translation in the same file
A China work permit file usually needs a police clearance certificate next to the degree. We do not issue or apply for PCCs. Get yours from Passport Seva or your local police, then send it with the degree and we legalise both together. See PCC apostille and attestation for how we handle the PCC itself.
Some employers also want a Chinese version of the degree. We translate into Chinese when you ask for it. Before we start, check with the employer whether the translation must be done in India and legalised, or whether they translate it locally in China. The answer changes the cost, so we confirm it first.

Questions about degrees for China
My joining date is fixed. Should I wait for the offer letter before starting?
No need to wait. You can start the degree as soon as you are sure you are going. Ask your employer for their document list early, so we legalise the right papers in one go.
I did my degree through distance learning. Can it be legalised?
The stamps can be added to a distance-learning degree in the same way. Whether the Chinese employer accepts that degree for a work permit is their decision, so check with them first.
Can I send a degree that has already been apostilled?
Send us a photo. An existing apostille does not replace the Chinese Embassy stage in the files we process, so we look at what is already on the degree and tell you what is still needed.
I am already in China. Can my family send the degree to you?
Yes. A family member can courier the originals with a copy of your passport. We send the finished degree back to any address in India they give us.
Does my B.Ed or teaching diploma also need legalising?
Only if your employer lists it. Teaching qualifications follow the same education route as the degree and are priced separately.
